Dear Mrs Wood,

Thank you for your wonderful séance in honour of our dear Mrs Hart’s birthday. It really was a spirited evening (!), and the snowstorm was so exciting.

I wonder, however, if I might trouble you to cover the enclosed note I received this morning from my service. I feel just awful asking, but you did say and it’s a large expenditure I wasn’t expecting and since becoming a widow, I must look after every penny.

I look forward to seeing you on another occasion soon,
